Dyson, Quiros share lead in China
England’s Simon Dyson and Spain’s Alvaro Quiros share the first round lead after posting fiveunder-par rounds of 67 at the Volvo China Open in Shenzhen.
Defending champion Brett Rumsford was in a group one shot behind, Ian Poulter lies two shots back after an opening 69, while world number three Henrik Stenson is four off the lead after a 71.
Big-hitting Quiros, who has failed to record a top-three finish on Tour in the last three seasons, had a fine round that included four birdies and an eagle, and says that he is coming back into the form that saw him capture six wins between 2007 and 2011. ”You can’t see it yet on the rankings but I have been playing better,” he said.
“The Middle East swing was a good three weeks for me then I had a good result in Joburg and the last couple of weeks have been better.
“It was a good round of golf. It was a bit of a shame on the last par five because I was half a metre away from having a great chance to make another eagle but I ended up on the lip of the bunker and had to settle for a chip and two putts.”
