Lobi Stars of Makurdi have beaten defending champions Kano Pillars 2-0 in week 9 of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Lobi who struggled to escape relegation last season have not dropped a point at home having won all their matches.

After a barren first half, Lobi Stars got their first goal in the 55th when Moses Bunde stepped forward to convert a penalty after Kingsley Udoh was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Pillars fought back to level scores but in the 88th minute Lobi’s lanky defender Stephen Eze rose high above Pillars defenders to connect a tailored cross from Moses Bunde.

Lobi stars vice-chairman, Mr. Dominic Iorfa described the victory as a morale booster.

“This victory means a lot to us. It will spur us to more victories as we continue our search for a continental ticket.

“It was not an easy game. Pillars gave us a good fight and this is not surprising because they are the defending champions”, he said.

Although Lobi Stars are yet to drop a point at home, they are yet to pick a point on the road this season.
