Nigeria bat­tle South Africa for AF­CON 2015 ticket

The draws for the qual­i­fiers of the 2015 Or­ange Africa Cup of Na­tions to be held in Morocco has thrown up some mouth wa­ter­ing clashes as North African ri­vals Tu­nisia and Egypt will do bat­tle against each other in Group G.

In Group A, de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Nigeria will clash with 1996 win­ners South Africa, Sudan and ei­ther of Congo/Namibia/ Libya/Rwanda.

The seven group win­ners, the run­ners-up in each group, and the third best placed coun­try will join hosts Morocco as au­to­matic qual­i­fiers.

The draw pro­ce­dure saw 28 teams di­vided into 4 groups with each pot hav­ing 7 teams based on CAF’s rank­ing of the teams.

The qual­i­fiers serve a ma­jor phase to­wards the fi­nal tour­na­ment. Forty-nine (49) teams will fight for 15 places for the fi­nal tour­na­ment.

The 2015 Or­ange CAF Africa Cup of Na­tions will take place in Morocco from Jan­uary 17 to Fe­bru­ary 8, 2015.

The Pres­i­dent of Royal Moroc­can Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion (FRMF) and Chair­man of the Lo­cal Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee, Fouzi Lek­jaa, said his out­fit, is pre­pared to en­sure the best of con­di­tions for a suc­cess­ful tour­na­ment.

“We are com­mit­ted to or­ga­niz­ing a suc­cess­ful tour­na­ment. The tour­na­ment is also an op­por­tu­nity for the youth on the con­ti­nent to par­tic­i­pate and show­case their tal­ents to the world.”

The Su­per Ea­gles of Nigeria are the reign­ing African cham­pi­ons af­ter beat­ing Burk­ina Faso 1-0 in the fi­nal last year in South Africa.
