- From Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola NAN

Gunmen Monday night attacked Gubla village in Madagali LGA of Adamawa State, killing four persons.

A resident told Daily Trust that terrified villagers fled to the bush to escape the attack which lasted for several hours. A pastor’s official quarters and several houses were burnt during the attack.

“Luckily for the people they escaped when they heard gun shots in the night, if they had not acted fast, the casualty rate would have been higher. It was a terrible experience because the attackers remained in the town for several hours”, a resident said.

He identified the victims as Kadir Bigi,, Ijai Vigi, Kwandiyi Ijabuya and Abbas Ijaduwa while those whose houses were burnt include Alhaji Abbas, Yaza Abula, Ijayi Didi and Ijada Yaga.

Chairman of Madagali Local Government, Maina Ularamu, confirmed the killings, saying more than 10 buildings including a church were set ablaze. He called on federal government to deploy more troops to the area which has been attacked several times. Attempts to reach the spokesman of the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yola, Captain Jafaru Nuhu, were unsuccessful as he did not pick calls.
