Jigawa Assembly empowers monarchs on LG allocation

-

The Jigawa House of Assembly has passed a bill empowering emirs to pay their salaries and allowances and those of district and village heads from five per cent allocation derived from local governments in their areas.

The chairman of House Committee on Local Government, Alhaji Adamu Sarki, stated this yesterday in Dutse. He said the bill was an amendment to the Local Government Law No. 7 of 2007.

“Emirs will be paying their salaries, allowances and those of wards, village and district heads. Other expenditures including capital projects will be paid from the 5 per cent they received from the local governments in their domain,’’ he said.

In his speech, the Speaker, Alhaji Adamu Ahmed, said the new law would ensure an upward review of the allowances of all wards, village and district heads in the state.

“Before the passage of this law, ward heads in the state received a stipend of N2,000 monthly. The Secretary to the State Government will recommend to the emirate the amount that will be paid as allowances to ward, village and district heads,’’ he said. The bill which was sent to the assembly by the executive was deliberated on and unanimously passed by the lawmakers. (NAN)
