Cen­tre trains 100 women on ICT, busi­ness skills

The Na­tional Cen­tre for Women De­vel­op­ment (NCWD) yes­ter­day com­menced the train­ing of 100 women on In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­nol­ogy (ICT) and busi­ness skills.

Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of the cen­tre, Lady Onyeka On­wenu, said the 10-day train­ing is to pro­mote dig­i­tal in­clu­sion among dis­ad­van­taged women and the girl-child through the pro­vi­sion of ba­sic ICT and en­trepreneur­ship skills to en­able them per­form pro­fes­sional com­put­ing func­tions.

On­wenu said the train­ing is also ex­pe­di­ent with the planned launch of some women-friendly mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tions by the cen­tre in part­ner­ship with Tingo Mo­bile Limited, adding that the stipend the women will get from the train­ing will also help them to es­tab­lish businesses of their own.

Ear­lier, Di­rec­tor ICT of the cen­tre, Manny Emecheta, said the train­ing which has the theme “No Woman left out” is res­i­den­tial and will cover road trans­port, ac­com­mo­da­tion, meals and train­ing ma­te­ri­als.

He said 100 un­em­ployed fe­male grad­u­ates be­tween 20 and 50 years old selected from the 36 states and FCT are ex­pected to ben­e­fit from the train­ing.
