Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Eyo Charles, Calabar

No fewer than 30 refuse trucks have been abandoned at the entrance of Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade’s office in Calabar. Owners of the trucks refused to remove them at the time of filing this report last night, saying they would remain until their debts are cleared by the state government. Two weeks ago, Governor Ayade terminated refuse evacuation contracts with two private refuse collectors without defraying old debts, saying their task of keeping Calabar and other major towns in the state neat was not satisfactorily met. The result is that mountains of refuse have emerged all over Calabar with accompanying public health hazards, Dr Effiong Daniel, a private medical practitioner, said.
