Masari ap­points for­mer FISON Pres­i­dent SA agric

Gover­nor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has ap­pointed the im­me­di­ate past Pres­i­dent of the Fish­eries So­ci­ety of Nige­ria (FISON), Dr. Ab­bah Yakubu Ab­dul­lah, as his Spe­cial Ad­viser on agri­cul­ture.

Speak­ing to our re­porter shortly af­ter he was sworn-in last week in Katsina, Dr. Ab­dul­lah ex­pressed grat­i­tude to the gover­nor for the con­fi­dence re­posed in him and said he will put in his best to en­sure that the for­tunes of agri­cul­ture in the state wit­ness a great turn around in this era of change.

“Katsina State has abun­dant agri­cul­tural and hu­man re­sources that need to be fully har­nessed to bring back the glory of agri­cul­ture. We have made ef­forts in the past and will con­tinue to do more in or­der to make agri­cul­ture work prop­erly for the ben­e­fit of all stake­hold­ers in the state,” he said.

He as­sured that en­abling en­vi­ron­ment will be cre­ated by the present ad­min­is­tra­tion in the state to as­sist farm­ers and oth­ers in boost­ing agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tion, pro­cess­ing and mar­ket­ing, so as to gen­er­ate em­ploy­ment and cre­ate wealth es­pe­cially for women and youths.

Be­fore his new ap­point­ment as SA agri­cul­ture, Dr. Ab­dul­lah has served in var­i­ous agri­cul­ture com­mit­tees at the fed­eral and state gov­ern­ment lev­els. He has also con­sulted for var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions in­clud­ing the Food and Agri­cul­ture Or­ga­ni­za­tion (FAO) of the United Na­tions, World Bank and Nige­ria Ex­trac­tive In­dus­tries Trans­parency Ini­tia­tive (NEITI).
