Kwara po­lice call for col­lab­o­ra­tive ef­forts over cy­ber­crime Court jails 3 for steal­ing

Three men, Lawal Mustapha, 21, Anas Musa, 23, and Aliyu Nasir, 18, all of Sango area, Ilorin, have been sen­tenced to 11 months im­pris­on­ment each for steal­ing fit­tings of an un­com­pleted build­ing be­long­ing to one Baba Haliru Sani.

Mag­is­trate M.K. Aluko sen­tenced them to the jail terms to be served at the Fed­eral Prison,Oke-Kura, Ilorin, af­ter they were found guilty of tres­pass­ing into another per­son’s build­ing and steal­ing his prop­erty.

The court sen­tenced each of them to two months im­pris­on­ment with an op­tion of N5, 000 fine for the of­fence of crim­i­nal con­spir­acy, three months im­pris­on­ment with an op­tion of N5, 000 fine for the of­fence of tres­pass, another three months im­pris­on­ment with an op­tion of N10, 000 fine for the of­fence of theft, while that of mis­chief at­tracted three months im­pris­on­ment with op­tion of N5, 000 fine.

It was gath­ered that the case was re­ported on Septem­ber 12, that the ac­cused per­sons crim­i­nally tres­passed into a build­ing un­der ren­o­va­tion at Unique Ho­tel Area, Tanke, Ilorin, where they van­dalised the build­ing and stole all the elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances.

The com­plainant had added that they jumped through the fence into the build­ing and stole all the items, which they used a big sack to pack and pre­tended to be scavengers be­fore they were ac­costed by the po­lice and the items were re­cov­ered from them.

The pros­e­cu­tion said, “In­ves­ti­ga­tion con­ducted at the ‘F’ Di­vi­sional po­lice

head­quar­ters, Tanke, Ilorin, re­vealed that the ac­cused passed the night at the build­ing in or­der to carry out the ne­far­i­ous act.

It was gath­ered that the ac­cused con­fessed to the crime, adding that they were mem­bers of a syn­di­cate who pre­tend as scavengers to break into peo­ple’s houses.

The of­fences for which they were con­victed con­tra­vened sec­tions 97, 348, 287 and 327 of the pe­nal code.
