Scavenger jailed for steal­ing N150 at Kubwa

Po­lice drag 2 se­cu­rity guards to court for steal­ing phone

A 24-year-old scavenger has been sen­tenced to five months im­pris­on­ment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area court for steal­ing the sum of N150.00 in Pipeline area of Kubwa, Bwari Area Coun­cil of the FCT.

Auwal Sal­isu was con­victed for theft, an of­fense con­trary to sec­tion 288 of the Pe­nal Code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Baba­jide Ola­nipekun, told the court that the com­plainant, Al­haji Umar Suile­man of Pipeline, Kubwa, on Septem­ber 15, re­ported at the Kubwa po­lice sta­tion, of how the ac­cused, on same date, en­tered his room and stole away with the sum of N150.00 be­long­ing to his son, with­out his con­sent.

He said the ac­cused was how­ever caught and ar­rested with the said amount while at­tempt­ing to es­cape.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, he pleaded guilty and was sen­tenced to five months im­pris­on­ment by the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa, with an op­tion of N5, 000 fine.

Sim­i­larly, a 30-year-old man was ar­raigned be­fore the same court for al­legedly steal­ing the sum of N250, 000 from a shop in the same area.

Hal­i­mat Abu of Dei-dei was charged with theft, of­fense con­trary to sec­tion 287 of the Pe­nal Code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Baba­jide Ola­nipekun told the court that the com­plainant, Veron­ica Kpaasu of P.W, Kubwa on Septem­ber 11, re­ported at the Kubwa po­lice sta­tion, of how the ac­cused, on same date, acted in a du­bi­ous man­ner and dis­hon­estly stole her money in the tune of N250, 000 kept in her shop.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 by the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa with two rea­son­able sureties, one who must be a civil ser­vant res­i­dent within the court ju­ris­dic­tion.

The case was ad­journed to Novem­ber 4 for hear­ing. Po­lice in Kubwa have dragged two se­cu­rity guards be­fore an Abuja Grade 1 Area court for al­legedly steal­ing a Nokia cell­phone be­long­ing to one Em­manuel Ogba.

Joshua Arube, 25, and Fri­day Ogbu, 22, all of Jaji street, were charged with joint act and theft, of­fences con­trary to sec­tion 97 and 287 of the Pe­nal Code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Baba­jide Ola­nipekun told the court that the com­plainant, of Byazhin, on Septem­ber 19, re­ported at the Kubwa po­lice sta­tion, of how the ac­cused, on same date, jointly in fur­ther­ance of a com­mon in­ten­tion, stole his Nokia cell­phone val­ued at N27,000 with­out his con­sent.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, they pleaded not guilty and the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with one rea­son­able surety who must be res­i­dent within the court ju­ris­dic­tion. The case was ad­journed to Novem­ber 3 for hear­ing.

Sim­i­larly, A 27-year-old man has been ar­raigned be­fore the same court for al­legedly steal­ing elec­tric ca­bles be­long­ing to Reap­fields Re­sources Lim­ited.

Thomas Ap­ken of Ushafa Bwari was charged with theft, of­fences con­trary to sec­tion 287 of the Pe­nal Code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Baba­jide Ola­nipekun told the court that the com­plainant, Alebiosu Oluwatosin of Wuse 2, Abuja, on Septem­ber 17, re­ported at the Kubwa po­lice sta­tion, of how the ac­cused, while he was on duty as se­cu­rity guard, the ac­cused acted in a du­bi­ous man­ner.

He said the ac­cused dis­hon­estly stole elec­tric ca­bles prop­erty of Reap­fields Re­sources Lim­ited kept un­der his cus­tody with value yet to be es­ti­mated, with­out his con­sent.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000, by the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa, with two rea­son­able sureties who must be res­i­dent within the court ju­ris­dic­tion.

The case was ad­journed to Novem­ber 3 for hear­ing.
