Kidnappers face death penalty in Ebonyi

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi, yesterday warned that his government would not spear anyone caught in kidnap cases, saying he would invoke the death penalty for the offence.

He also warned landlords who accommodate hoodlums to keep kidnap victims that they would not see mercy when caught.

Umahi who gave the warnings at the State Township Stadium during a ceremony to mark the 55th anniversary of Nigerian independence and the 19th anniversary of Ebonyi State, decried the high rate of kidnapping in the state.

“Let me use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to kidnappers, this is because of the three recent kidnapping cases recorded in Ebonyi in just one month. I will not hesitate to endorse with my red pen, the death penalty for anyone brought before me for kidnapping. We are ready to invoke the law on such persons”, he said.

He said government would demolish any property used in harbouring kidnap victims in any area of the state as stipulated by law.
