Ebonyi gov warns kidnappers

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

Following increasing cases of kidnapping in Ebonyi State, Governor Dave Umahi yesterday warned that his government would not spare anyone caught in the act, including landlords who offer their houses to hoodlums to harbour kidnap victims.

Governor Umahi, who gave the warning at a ceremony to mark the Independence Day, lamented that so many cases have been reported in the past one month.

“Let me use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to kidnappers. I will not hesitate to approve death penalty for kidnappers’’, he said.

He said the government will also demolish any property used in harbouring victims of kidnappers.

“The law recent passed into law in the state is still very much alive. Landlords should not allow their buildings to be used as dens for harbouring kidnap victims. Same goes to owners of uncompleted buildings; keep them clean, and make sure that you watch over your property’’, he said.

The governor also called for re-introduction of developmentplanning strategy into the business of governance so as to enhance integrated concept of development through the interplay of policies.

Such interplay of policies, Governor Umahi said must encompass sustainable development that would ensure that budgeting is futuristic and rolls over to the years and decades ahead, regardless of individual, tribal differences or political party.
