Budgets for hydropower commission not yet accessed – Ministry

Daily Trust - - NEWS - By Simon Echewofun Sunday

The Federal Ministry of Power has said it was yet to access money appropriated for the Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).

The ministry’s spokesman, Timothy Oyedeji said this in a reaction to Daily Trust publication last week indicating that between 2012 and 2015, over N700million was budgeted for the commission which is yet to operate.

In a statement, the official said the former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo had said no money would be accessed until the commission takes off.

The ministry disclosed that the list of nominees for the Commission had been sent to the Presidency for approval, “unfortunately the former administration could not approve the said list until the end of its tenure.

“As part of Government efforts, the Ministry of Power has consistently assisted HYPPADEC Secretariat with furnishing of a structure donated by Niger State Government in Minna for its take-off. It is instructive to state that anything so done at HYPPADEC Secretariat by the Ministry is not from the Commission’s budget as erroneously portrayed,” he said.
