Group kicks against imposition in APC support groups

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - By Mustapha Suleiman and Sakina Abubakar

A support group of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria Youth for National Consciousness, has warned against any attempt to impose leaders on the coalition of over 180 support groups of the party.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the national coordinator of the group, Prince Okoi Eteng warned that his members would resist any attempt to impose one Amb. Lawan Munir as the chairman of coalition of APC support groups in the country.

Prince Eteng lauded the initiative of the APC national organising secretary, Chief Osita Izunaso, for collapsing various support groups that worked for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari into a coalition for better organization and coordination. He, however, wondered why an election scheduled to elect leaders of the coalition last month could not hold.

While calling for the intervention of President Buhari and party leaders over the matter to avoid crisis, Eteng frowned that some members of the ruling party had not realised the importance of internal democracy.

He continued: “The efforts made by the over 180 APC support groups who travelled the length and breadth of the country to ensure the election of Muhammadu Buhari should not be sacrificed at the altar of mediocrity. What is happening to the election of leaders for coalition of APC support groups is a sign that some party leaders have forgotten so soon the virtues of internal democracy on the basis of which the party got popularity to win the presidential election.”
