Nige­ria needs more univer­si­ties – BUK VC

Text by Si­mon E. Sun­day @Si­monEchewo­fun he Vice Chan­cel­lor of Bayero Univer­sity, Kano Pro­fes­sor Muham­mad Yahuza Bello has called for the es­tab­lish­ment of more Univer­si­ties in Nige­ria par­tic­u­larly in the north­ern part of the coun­try.

Pro­fes­sor Yahuza Bello, who stated this re­cently when he re­ceived mem­bers of the Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil of the North West Univer­sity, Kano who paid him a cour­tesy visit in his of­fice.

He said con­sid­er­ing the num­ber of ap­pli­cants into var­i­ous univer­si­ties and the ad­mis­sion car­ry­ing ca­pac­ity of the ex­ist­ing Univer­si­ties, there is need for fed­eral and the state gov­ern­ments to es­tab­lish more univer­si­ties in the coun­try.

The Vice Chan­cel­lor who cited an ex­am­ple of 2015/2016 ad­mis­sion ex­er­cise in Bayero Univer­sity, say­ing over 20,000 stu­dents ap­plied for un­der­grad­u­ate cour­ses but only six thou­sand five hun­dred would be ad­mit­ted.

The don in the univer­sity’s re­cent weekly bul­letin cor­rected the wrong im­pres­sion that cre­ation of new Univer­sity would bring ri­valry and an­i­mos­ity be­tween the old and new ones in­stead, he ex­plained they would be com­ple­ment­ing each other.
