‘Biafra strug­gle claimed 18m peo­ple’

As­sis­tant In­for­ma­tion Di­rec­tor of Move­ment for the Sov­er­eign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Mr. Sun­day Ok­ereafor yesterday said the strug­gle by the or­gan­i­sa­tion has claimed 18 mil­lion peo­ple since 1967.

Ok­ereafor, in a state­ment is­sued yesterday said de­spite killing and mo­lesta­tion by the Nige­rian gov­ern­ment and se­cu­rity agen­cies, they would not aban­don the strug­gle un­til its goal was achieved.

He ac­cused South-east gover­nors of in­cit­ing vi­o­lence in the zone for po­lit­i­cal gains.

He also con­demned the al­leged shoot­ing, killing, and ar­rest of pas­tors, bish­ops in two churches by se­cu­rity agents.

Ok­ereafor said MASSOB was op­er­at­ing ac­cord­ing to the law as en­shrined in the United Na­tions Char­ter on Hu­man Rights.

He said: “No­body’s right should be vi­o­lated be­cause there is con­sti­tu­tional right to assem­bly, as­so­ci­a­tion, re­li­gion, and wor­ship for all Nige­ri­ans and MASSOB mem­bers are not ex­cep­tion to this con­struc­tion”.
