Catholic priest prays for stampede victims
Priest of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Damaturu, Yobe State, Reverend Father Joshua Haman yesterday led a special prayer session for victims of the Hajj stampede.
He expressed sadness that the incident claimed such a high number of worshipers, but added, “God Almighty knows best”.
“The death toll keeps rising, but the Almighty God knows best and who are we to question His will. We are all equal before God and we have to respect the religion of others and to remember fellow human being at all times whether in moments of trouble, sadness and joy despite religious differences,” he said. Father Haman also prayed for understanding among adherents of various religions, particularly in the North-east.
