Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Abdullateef Aliyu & Mariam Eniola, Lagos

Rotary International has spent $276million on the fight against polio in Nigeria between 1996 and now, Daily Trust gathered.

Chairman of the Nigeria National Polioplus Committee (NNPPC), Dr. Tunji Funsho disclosed this while briefing newsmen at Rotary House in Lagos.

He said the feat recorded in the battle against polio was due to political will on the part of government, use of innovative strategies to reach more children among others.

Also speaking, the District Governor of District 9110 Rotary Nigeria, Otunba Bola Onabadejo warned against complacency, stressing that Nigeria has two more years of hard work to achieve polio-free certification.

He said insurgency remained a major obstacle to the eradication of polio, adding, “had it been there was no insurgency, Nigeria would have tackled polio before now’’.
