World Pension Summit begins in Abuja today
Forthesecondconsecutivetime,Nigeria is hosting the two-day World Pension Summit- Africa Special, in Abuja after it hosted the maiden edition in 2014.
Tagged, “Building Sustainable Pension Systems in Africa”, the summit would be declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Director-General of the National Pencom Commission (PenCom), Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, recently justified the selection of Nigeria for the summit thus: “The successes recorded so far in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme lends itself to be replicated in other jurisdictions across Africa.
She revealed that Nigeria was awarded the hosting right for the second edition of the summit due to the success of the maiden edition held last year.
PenCom had disclosed that over 400 delegates from 23 countries, including 15 African nations, attended the maiden edition and the participants for this year’s summit might exceed the previous one.
Participants at the summit are expected to discuss reforms in African pension systems, how some African countries can adopt Nigeria’s pension reform model and how pension funds can be securely invested.
