World Pen­sion Sum­mit be­gins in Abuja to­day

Forthesec­ond­con­sec­u­tive­time,Nige­ria is host­ing the two-day World Pen­sion Sum­mit- Africa Spe­cial, in Abuja af­ter it hosted the maiden edi­tion in 2014.

Tagged, “Build­ing Sus­tain­able Pen­sion Sys­tems in Africa”, the sum­mit would be de­clared open by Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari.

Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of the Na­tional Pencom Com­mis­sion (PenCom), Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, re­cently jus­ti­fied the se­lec­tion of Nige­ria for the sum­mit thus: “The suc­cesses recorded so far in the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the Con­trib­u­tory Pen­sion Scheme lends it­self to be repli­cated in other ju­ris­dic­tions across Africa.

She re­vealed that Nige­ria was awarded the host­ing right for the sec­ond edi­tion of the sum­mit due to the suc­cess of the maiden edi­tion held last year.

PenCom had dis­closed that over 400 del­e­gates from 23 coun­tries, in­clud­ing 15 African na­tions, at­tended the maiden edi­tion and the par­tic­i­pants for this year’s sum­mit might ex­ceed the pre­vi­ous one.

Par­tic­i­pants at the sum­mit are ex­pected to dis­cuss re­forms in African pen­sion sys­tems, how some African coun­tries can adopt Nige­ria’s pen­sion re­form model and how pen­sion funds can be se­curely in­vested.
