Engi­neers honor Dan­gote, Mimiko, oth­ers

Coun­cil of the Nige­rian So­ci­ety of Engi­neers (NSE) has ap­proved con­fer­ment of Honorary Fel­low­ship of the so­ci­ety on the gover­nor of Ondo State, Dr. Oluse­gun Rah­man Mimiko, in­dus­tri­al­ists Al­haji Aliko Dan­gote and Dr. In­no­cent Chuk­wuma as well as founder of Afe Ba­balola Univer­sity, Ado Ek­iti, Afe Ba­balola.

A state­ment from the Head, Media & Publi­ca­tions NSE, Ab­dulka­dir Aliyu quoted the pres­i­dent and chair­man of Coun­cil of NSE, Engr. Ade­mola Isaac Olorun­femi as say­ing the four were “con­sid­ered wor­thy of the hon­our by virtue of their re­spec­tive dis­po­si­tions as ad­vo­cates of en­gi­neer­ing ad­vance­ment in Nige­ria.

“Coun­cil of NSE ex­er­cises the dis­cre­tion to elect distin­guished per­sons into the cadre of Honorary Fel­low­ship, hav­ing been con­sid­ered to have ad­vanced the prospec­tion of public works or em­i­nent in science and tech­nol­ogy and pro­moted en­gi­neer­ing in all ram­i­fi­ca­tions.”

He said Mimiko is hon­oured in recog­ni­tion of his pro­grammes as gover­nor of Ondo State, which has placed ad­vance­ment of en­gi­neer­ing, viv-a-vis in­fra­struc­ture de­vel­op­ment of the state in con­sis­tent per­spec­tive.

Since in­cep­tion in 1958, NSE has con­firmed 1,800 of its mem­bers on the Fel­lows cadre, 20 of which are Honorary Fel­lows.

Amongst the list of the 20 Honorary Fel­lows are distin­guished names as Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari, Mr. Mu­tiu Su­monu, Sen­a­tor Godswill Ak­pabio, Prince Bola Aji­bola, Sir Mobo­laji Bank An­thony, Chief (Dr.) M. K. O. Abi­ola (late), amongst oth­ers.

The NSE pres­i­dent will con­fer the awards on the new Honorary Fel­lows at the open­ing cer­e­mony of the NSE An­nual En­gi­neer­ing Con­fer­ence/ AGM sched­uled for Tues­day, Novem­ber 17, 2015 at the In­ter­na­tional Cul­ture and Events Cen­tre (The Dome), Akure.

The theme of the 2015 En­gi­neer­ing Con­fer­ence tagged Sun­shine 2015 is “Na­tional In­te­grated In­fra­struc­ture Master Plan (NIIMP) 2014 - Strate­gies for Im­ple­men­ta­tion”.

The en­tire con­fer­ence pro­ceed­ings will span through Mon­day, Novem­ber 16 to Fri­day, Novem­ber 20, 2015.
