Enyimba fall in Owerri as Wikki rise in Bauchi
While continental chasers Wikki Tourists yesterday brightened their chances with a 1-0 victory over visiting FC Taraba in Baucchi, table toppers, Enyimba FC who are gunning for their seventh league title slipped in Owerri where they fell 1-2 to rivals Heartland FC.
With the loss, Enyimba remain on 58 points just as Warri Wolves on Saturday recorded a sounding 3-0 victory over visiting Sunshine Stars to bring their points to 55 three less than Enyimba and one more than Wikki Tourists who have 54 points.
The Oriental derby in Owerri lived up to expectations as both sides exchanged the much expected fire works with Heartland’s Fortune Omoniwari giving the host the lead in the 40th minute from the spot.
However, after they were reduced to 10 men after Ifeanyi Anaemena was sent off for second booking, Markson Ojobo drew Enyimba level also from the spot following a hand ball incident.
In the 62nd minute Emeka Ogbugh threw the home crowd into wide jubilation when he scored the match winner to hand Heartland the maximum points.
In Bauchi, former JUTH FC of Jos player, Victor Yakubu was the hero as he scored Wikki Tourists’ lone goal to ensure FC Taraba remained at the bottom of the log.
Sharks have their relegation worries multiplied in Katsina where El-Kanemi Warriors defeated them 2-0. Benjamin Turba and Efe Yarhere were the goal scorers for the Warriors.
In Lafia, leading goal scorer, Esosa Igbinoba scored from the spot against his former club Lobi Stars to hand his side the maximum points and also take his goals tally to 15.
Akwa United suffered 1-2 loss away to Kwara United as Sheriff Jimoh and Dare Ojo scored in the 38th and 56th minute respectively to hand the ‘Afonje Warriors’ victory. Aniekpeno Udo scored the visitors consolatory goal three minutes after the hosts’ second goal.
In Jos, Giwa FC were held to a 0-0 draw by defending champions Kano Pillars just as IfeanyiUbah also earned a point against Dolphins in Port-Harcourt where it ended 0-0.
Bayelsa United also got a little reprieve in Ibadan where they held Shooting Stars to a goalless draw.
