Eny­imba fall in Ow­erri as Wikki rise in Bauchi

While con­ti­nen­tal chasers Wikki Tourists yesterday bright­ened their chances with a 1-0 vic­tory over vis­it­ing FC Taraba in Bauc­chi, ta­ble top­pers, Eny­imba FC who are gun­ning for their sev­enth league ti­tle slipped in Ow­erri where they fell 1-2 to ri­vals Heart­land FC.

With the loss, Eny­imba re­main on 58 points just as Warri Wolves on Satur­day recorded a sound­ing 3-0 vic­tory over vis­it­ing Sun­shine Stars to bring their points to 55 three less than Eny­imba and one more than Wikki Tourists who have 54 points.

The Ori­en­tal derby in Ow­erri lived up to ex­pec­ta­tions as both sides ex­changed the much ex­pected fire works with Heart­land’s For­tune Omoni­wari giv­ing the host the lead in the 40th minute from the spot.

How­ever, af­ter they were re­duced to 10 men af­ter Ifeanyi Anae­mena was sent off for sec­ond book­ing, Markson Ojobo drew Eny­imba level also from the spot fol­low­ing a hand ball in­ci­dent.

In Bauchi, for­mer JUTH FC of Jos player, Vic­tor Yakubu was the hero as he scored Wikki Tourists’ lone goal to en­sure FC Taraba re­mained at the bot­tom of the log.

Sharks have their rel­e­ga­tion wor­ries mul­ti­plied in Katsina where El-Kanemi War­riors de­feated them 2-0. Ben­jamin Turba and Efe Yarhere were the goal scor­ers for the War­riors.

In Lafia, lead­ing goal scorer, Esosa Ig­bi­noba scored from the spot against his for­mer club Lobi Stars to hand his side the max­i­mum points and also take his goals tally to 15.

Akwa United suf­fered 1-2 loss away to Kwara United as Sher­iff Ji­moh and Dare Ojo scored in the 38th and 56th minute re­spec­tively to hand the ‘Afonje War­riors’ vic­tory. Aniekpeno Udo scored the visi­tors con­so­la­tory goal three min­utes af­ter the hosts’ sec­ond goal.

In Jos, Giwa FC were held to a 0-0 draw by de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Kano Pil­lars just as Ifeany­i­Ubah also earned a point against Dol­phins in Port-Har­court where it ended 0-0.

Bayelsa United also got a lit­tle re­prieve in Ibadan where they held Shoot­ing Stars to a goal­less draw.
