Wike’s witnesses tutored to give false evidence - APC

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - By Adelanwa Bamgboye

Counsel to Chief Dakuku Peterside, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Rivers State, Chief Akinlolu Olujimi SAN, has said that all the witnesses assembled by Governor Wike have come before the tribunal to tell lies.

Governor Nyesom Wike’s witnesses had refused to read to the hearing of the tribunal chairman and members documentary evidence presented to them on the ground that the documents were from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“All the witnesses that appeared before the tribunal today came here to tell lies. They have been tutored on what to say. But one thing they fail to understand is that the court knows when a witness is telling lies. By the time we get to the stage where we have to address the court, we will know whether they are telling the truth or not,” Olujimi said.

About five witnesses called yesterday described the election as peaceful in their evidence but failed to read from a report from the INEC which says the contrary.

At the last adjourned date, some of the witnesses called by the governor to give evidence at the tribunal could not identify their own photographs on the voters register shown to them at the tribunal.

They claimed the register was not legible enough for them to identify whether it contains their photographs or not.

Chief Dakuku Peterside and his party, APC dragged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the tribunal to challenge the election of Governor Nyesom Wike of the PDP, who was declared winner of the election by the electoral body.

Peterside and his party in the petition are asking the tribunal to nullify the election of Governor Wike over alleged irregularities.

Hearing of the tribunal continues today.
