Pro-Saraki senators deserve recall – Lawyer

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Balarabe Alkassim, Bauchi

A Bauchi-based lawyer, Barrister Sama’ila Idris, has said that the senators who passed a vote of confidence on Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, deserve sanction for contempt of court.

Barrister Idris said this yesterday while speaking with journalists in Bauchi.

He faulted the action of the concerned senators, saying that they do not have right to do what they did when the case is pending before a court of law.

“The 83 senators, who passed vote of confidence on Saraki, deserve public sanction because they disrespected the authority of the court. Their act is nothing but contempt of court. It’s totally contemptuous because this matter is pending before the court.

“Do they want to tell Nigerians that if Saraki is found guilty after trial, he will still remain the Senate President? If he is found guilty, he will become a convict. So, will an ex-convict be a Senate President? So, their act regarding the vote of confidence is contemptuous because there’s a court proceeding that they are supposed to obey. These senators deserve to be recalled by their respective constituencies for such actions,” he said.
