Al-Farouq Aminu gearing up for the NBA season

Two months after helping Nigeria clinch their firstever African Championship title in Tunisia, Al-Farouq Aminu is back in action.

As most teams opened for the upcoming 201516 NBA season, Aminu was last week officially introduced to his teammates and the fans by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The 25-year-old swingman will play for his fourth NBA team since he was a first-round pick by the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2010.

Having been a pivotal member of the Nigerian team at AfroBasket 2015 held in Tunisia, Aminu is hoping to remain as crucial for the Blazers this season.

As well as headlining the AfroBasket All-Star team, the 6-foot-9 forward, feels that playing for Nigeria has helped him in getting prepared for his new experience with the Blazers.

For the NigerianAmerican whose name translates to “The Chief has arrived”, it is all about capitalizing on his AfroBasket experience and form to move on.

“I have played for my national team the whole summer,” he replied when asked whether he felt prepared for the new NBA season.

“Sometimes I worry I’m not getting enough rest, but I am in good shape. I started to learn how to take care of my body,” he said.

Super Eagles midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi was among the players who trained yesterday ahead of Thursday’s international friendly against Congo in Belgium
