SURE-P ex-staff write Reps, say N4.9bn embezzled
Nigerians recruited as Federal Task Force officers for the protection of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P)/Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) projects around the country have petitioned the House of Representatives over their entitlements.
The ex-staff thronged the National Assembly yesterday and submitted their petition to the chairman of the House ad hoc committee on media and public affairs, Sani Zoro (APC, Jigawa); a copy of which was made available to journalists.
They alleged that a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amongst other people had embezzled and extorted the tune of N4.947 billion from 51,000 jobless Nigerians recruited under the scheme.
The aggrieved petitioners stated in the petition letter that the PDP chieftains among whom is a former minister and a Senator, made them to purchase the Federal Task Force forms which were supposed to be free at the rate N30,000 only to be employed, used and abandoned.
