Emir of Ilorin seeks Confab report implementation

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Romoke W. Ahmad, Ilorin

The Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari yesterday called on the National Assembly to come up with a bill that will ensure implementation of the national conference report.

The emir made the call while receiving members of the Kwara State correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Sulu-Gambari, who participated in the exercise, noted that the forum came up with far reaching recommendations which ‘‘could guide Nigeria at this stage of her restructuring”.

He said though the confab was a fact finding one, there was need for the National Assembly to look at its recommendations and adopt those that could foster peace, unity and enhance development of the nation.

“I believe it should not be thrown into the dust bin just like Professor Gambari has said. Nigeria needs restructuring and the media has important roles to play in helping the country to realise the dreams of its founding fathers. Nigeria will not disintegrate’’, he said.

He cautioned journalists against stories that could tarnish the image of the country or destroy its foundation.

“You should continue to promote peace and harmony, not war. You should be able to tailor the country towards the right direction,” he said.
