Ekiti denies appointing PDP members into SIEC

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti

Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolade Kolapo, yesterday denied allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Ayodele Fayose had appointed cardcarrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the state’s electoral commission to conduct council election slated for December 19 this year.

The commissioner said the governor “painstakingly” selected non-partisan individuals into the electoral body in order to ensure credibility.

The APC had dragged the governor and members of the SIEC to the court, over alleged composition of the commission by PDP card carrying members.

Kolapo, who spoke in Ado Ekiti at a press briefing on the activities of his ministry in the last one-year, described the allegation as unfound and biased.

He said an impartial and unbiased electoral body as well as other arrangements had been put in place to ensure a free, fair and acceptable local government election.

He described the state as “a clear break from the present caretaker committee arrangement which has been in place since 2010.”
