Unite against in­se­cu­rity – Ab­dul­salami

For­mer Head of State, re­tired Gen. Ab­dul­salami Abubakar, yesterday urged Nige­ri­ans to unite in the fight against in­se­cu­rity.

He spoke shortly af­ter declar­ing open a stake­hold­ers’ se­cu­rity meet­ing or­gan­ised by the Ab­dul­salami Abubakar In­sti­tute for Peace and Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Stud­ies (AAIPSDS) and Pan-African Strate­gic and Pol­icy Group (PANAFSTRAG) at Maizube Farms in Minna yesterday.

He said end­ing in­sur­gency was a col­lec­tive re­spon­si­bil­ity, adding: “Our coun­try to­day is be­dev­illed by all types of in­se­cu­rity, from kid­nap­ping to Boko Haram and all sorts of ter­ror­ism. This is an is­sue that should in­volve ev­ery Nige­rian. We all must as­sist the gov­ern­ment and se­cu­rity agen­cies to find a so­lu­tion and the way for­ward on how to curb this men­ace.

“That is why we have come to­gether to brain­storm to come up with a last­ing so­lu­tion. We have in­vited re­tired and serv­ing mil­i­tary per­son­nel, tra­di­tional rulers who are the ones in grass­roots and peo­ple from North East who are at the re­ceiv­ing end of ter­ror­ism to share their ex­pe­ri­ences to help us look at the is­sue in to­tal­ity and come up with a last­ing so­lu­tion”.

“We can’t leave the so­lu­tion to in­se­cu­rity to the gov­ern­ment or our lead­ers alone to fight this men­ace”, he added.

Present at the meet­ing were re­tired Gen­er­als Ab­dul­ra­ham Dan­bazau and Ishola Wil­liams. Also present were the Emir of Minna Dr. Faruk Ba­hago and the Shehu of Bama, Al­haji Kyari Umar ElKanemi.
