Lagos moves against owners of abandoned buildings

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Femi Akinola, Lagos

The Lagos State government says it will soon take action against owners of uncompleted and abandoned buildings which harbour criminals.

The government took the decision at the weekly State Security Council meeting chaired by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

The government urged owners of such buildings to ensure that they expedite action on them or face sanctions if the buildings are occupied by miscreants.

Briefing Government House correspondents after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the meeting discussed various issues on security, crime management, law enforcement and traffic management within the state.

“We’ve looked at areas where we are winning and areas where we need to make more efforts, especially the security implication of the influx of people into Lagos. We also looked at the security implication of so many uncompleted and abandoned buildings and the increase in the number of people that are getting into so many estates in Lagos,” he said. Owoseni said the government had resolved to enforce existing laws while ensuring that miscreants who use such buildings to carry out unlawful activities are brought to book.
