NEWS ‘Kebbi lawmaker died in Hajj stampede’
The member representing Arewa constituency in Kebbi State House of Assembly, Abdullahi T. Yeldu, died in the Jamarat stampede which left 769 dead and many others injured.
The member representing Kalgo constituency, Alhaji Ahmadu Kuka, confirmed the death yesterday in an interview with newsmen upon arrival from Saudi Arabia. He was among the first set of pilgrims from the state to return.
Kuka said many pilgrims will not forget this year’s exercise because of the events the crane crash and stampede.
He commiserated with people of the state and their families over the incident, adding, ‘‘ it is the will of Allah’’.
Among the pilgrims that returned in the first flight were; wife of the state governor, Hajiya Aisha Atiku Bagudu, seven members of the House of Assembly, former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Musa Sakaba and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains among others.
Earlier speaking, wife of the governor, Hajiya Aisha, also condoled with the people over the incidents. Four thousand, one hundred and five people from the state took part in the exercise.
