NEWS ‘Kebbi law­maker died in Hajj stam­pede’

The mem­ber rep­re­sent­ing Arewa con­stituency in Kebbi State House of Assem­bly, Ab­dul­lahi T. Yeldu, died in the Ja­ma­rat stam­pede which left 769 dead and many oth­ers in­jured.

The mem­ber rep­re­sent­ing Kalgo con­stituency, Al­haji Ah­madu Kuka, con­firmed the death yesterday in an in­ter­view with news­men upon ar­rival from Saudi Ara­bia. He was among the first set of pil­grims from the state to re­turn.

Kuka said many pil­grims will not for­get this year’s ex­er­cise be­cause of the events the crane crash and stam­pede.

He com­mis­er­ated with peo­ple of the state and their fam­i­lies over the in­ci­dent, adding, ‘‘ it is the will of Al­lah’’.

Among the pil­grims that re­turned in the first flight were; wife of the state gover­nor, Ha­jiya Aisha Atiku Bagudu, seven mem­bers of the House of Assem­bly, for­mer Sec­re­tary to the State Gov­ern­ment, Al­haji Bala Musa Sak­aba and All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC) chief­tains among oth­ers.

Ear­lier speak­ing, wife of the gover­nor, Ha­jiya Aisha, also con­doled with the peo­ple over the in­ci­dents. Four thou­sand, one hun­dred and five peo­ple from the state took part in the ex­er­cise.
