AGRI­CUL­TURE CADP trains com­mer­cial farm­ers in Kano

As part of its en­hance­ment pro­gramme on the commercialisation of agri­cul­ture, the World Bank-as­sisted Com­mer­cial Agri­cul­ture De­vel­op­ment Pro­ject (CADP), in con­junc­tion with Sasakawa Africa As­so­ci­a­tion, has trained 250 small and medium com­mer­cial farm­ers in Kano State.

Speak­ing dur­ing the two­day train­ing pro­gramme, the state pro­ject co­or­di­na­tor of the CADP, Al­haji Sal­isu Kaila Jo­gana said the pro­ject was also ex­pected to pos­i­tively im­pact on 10,000 com­mer­cial farm­ers, in­clud­ing women and youths. Ac­cord­ing to him, the train­ing was aimed at fur­ther build­ing the ca­pac­ity of rice and maize pro­duc­ers in or­der to achieve bet­ter re­sults.

Jo­gana said the pro­ject was aimed at strength­en­ing agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tion sys­tems and fa­cil­i­tate ac­cess to mar­ket for rice, maize and dairy value chains among small and medium scale com­mer­cial farm­ers in the state.

He ex­plained that the CADP part­nered Sasakawa Africa As­so­ci­a­tion be­cause of its vast ex­pe­ri­ence and ex­per­tise on agri­cul­tural ex­ten­sion and sup­port ser­vices.
