Woman, 52, jailed for de­fraud­ing 3 tip­per driv­ers

A 52-year-old woman has been sen­tenced to six months im­pris­on­ment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area court for de­fraud­ing three tip­per driv­ers to the tune of N189,000

Okpeyemi Ade­bayo of Kaba vil­lage, was con­victed for crim­i­nal breach of trust, of­fense con­trary to sec­tion 312 of the Pe­nal Code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, Kelechi Echendu, told the court that the com­plainants, Ahmed Ab­du­lahi, Bala Baba and Yahiza Adamu, all of Global Sign­board Tip­per garage, Abuja, on Oc­to­ber 2, re­ported at the Dutse Al­haji po­lice sta­tion, that while they were at the above ad­dress, the ac­cused met them and asked them to sup­ply three trips of sharp sand, all val­ued at N189,000 at Foun­tain es­tate, Karsana Abuja.

He said when they de­manded for their money af­ter de­liv­ery of the sand, she asked them to wait, claim­ing that some­one had gone to bring the money from the bank, who never re­turned till date.

When the charge was read to the ac­cused, she pleaded guilty and the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa sen­tenced her to six months im­pris­on­ment with an op­tion of N20,000 fine.
