Bauchi govt tasked on youth engagement

Daily Trust - - BACKPACK -

Acoalition of youth organisations in Bauchi state under the aegis of Bauchi Youth Forum (BYF) has called on the state government to engage youth in productive ventures to reduce unemployment rate. Coordinator of the Forum, Jeremiah Panshak Kassem said this at a youth training and event held in commemoration of Nigeria 55th year Independence in Bauchi, weekend.

The group said government must show more commitment to improving the lot of the youth, beginning from the budgeting process.

Kassem said the aim of the Forum is to raise awareness on the role of youths in development and the need for them to be involved in nation building.

He said: “This programme will promote young people’s effective inclusive civic engagement at all levels. It is an established fact. We want more efforts from governments at all levels and other stakeholders to engage youths if not, the resultant effect has been bad. It often resulted in the death of many, just as a good number have taken to cultism, insurgency, and armed robbery.

A participant, Maryam Garba said engagement and participation of youth is essential to achieve sustainable human development. “Sadly, opportunities for the youth to engage politically, economically and socially are not available,” she said.
