Animashaun off to Egypt ITTF World Cadet Challenge
Twelve-year-old table tennis sensational player, Abayomi Animashaun, on Thursday departed the country for Sharm, Egypt en route Slovenia for a training programme.
The training will hold from Oct. 11 to Oct. 21 to prepare the player ahead of the International Table Federation (ITTF) Cadet Challenge.
The ITTF World Cadet Challenge will take place from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1 in Egypt.
Animashaun, who departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 2.25 Tennis World p.m., was accompanied by an official of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Demola Owoeye.
The player, who spoke to NAN before his departure, promised to give a good account of himself.
“I am aware of the task ahead of me and I feel honoured to represent Africa. It is a great privilege to participate at this competition. There are several good players out there too but I thank God I got the opportunity.
“I will ensure that I put in my best. I will play according to instructions because that’s the only way I can come out victorious,” Animashaun said.
The young player qualified to represent Africa alongside an Egyptian.
He secured the slot through his performance at the ITTF World Hopes Week in China earlier in the year. (NAN)
