An­i­mashaun off to Egypt ITTF World Cadet Chal­lenge

Twelve-year-old ta­ble ten­nis sen­sa­tional player, Abay­omi An­i­mashaun, on Thurs­day de­parted the coun­try for Sharm, Egypt en route Slove­nia for a train­ing pro­gramme.

The train­ing will hold from Oct. 11 to Oct. 21 to pre­pare the player ahead of the In­ter­na­tional Ta­ble Fed­er­a­tion (ITTF) Cadet Chal­lenge.

The ITTF World Cadet Chal­lenge will take place from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1 in Egypt.

An­i­mashaun, who de­parted the Mur­tala Muhammed In­ter­na­tional Air­port at 2.25 Ten­nis World p.m., was ac­com­pa­nied by an of­fi­cial of the Nige­ria Ta­ble Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion (NTTF), De­mola Owo­eye.

The player, who spoke to NAN be­fore his de­par­ture, promised to give a good ac­count of him­self.

“I am aware of the task ahead of me and I feel hon­oured to rep­re­sent Africa. It is a great priv­i­lege to par­tic­i­pate at this com­pe­ti­tion. There are sev­eral good play­ers out there too but I thank God I got the op­por­tu­nity.

“I will en­sure that I put in my best. I will play ac­cord­ing to in­struc­tions be­cause that’s the only way I can come out vic­to­ri­ous,” An­i­mashaun said.

The young player qual­i­fied to rep­re­sent Africa along­side an Egyp­tian.

He se­cured the slot through his per­for­mance at the ITTF World Hopes Week in China ear­lier in the year. (NAN)
