Farmers board to reconcile factions
The Board of Trustee of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) yesterday said the farmers’ body will be reorganized and reconciled warring factions.
A member of the Trustee, Dr Shettima Mustafa stated that the board acknowledged the appeals and pleas by individual and group members of AFAN to the Trustees in recent times to bring about unity and understanding among of the farmers’ apex body.
In a statement yesterday, Dr Mustafa said: “There is no gainsaying that in the last few years, series of misunderstandings have crept into AFAN to the extent of threatening the commonness of purpose and the philosophy/objective of floating it in the first instance.”
He said the three Trustees, in whose names AFAN was registered, have discussed the matter and decided to take necessary steps to bring about the required harmony and progress among the farmers.
“In so doing, concerned stakeholders should be rest assured that they will be involved as appropriate and therefore be patient and allow the Trustees to handle the matter soonest,” he stated.
