Gbajabiamila’s victory: Lagos to drag tribunal to NJC

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it suspected that the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal was compromised and vowed to report the panel to the National Judicial Commission (NJC).

The party spoke following last Friday’s affirmation of the election of the House of Representatives majority leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, as the member representing Surulere 2 Federal constituency of the state.

Justice C.U Anwuka-led three-man tribunal had dismissed the petition of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Tony Ashikodi, for want of evidence.

Besides, the governorship petition that was dismissed by the tribunal and court of appeal, petitions of the party in respect of the National Assembly elections have suffered similar fate in recent times.

Speaking with our correspondent on the outcome of petition against Gbajabiamila, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Taofiq Gani, described the outcome as a miscarriage of justice.

He said the party would not stop at appealing the judgment, but it would refer the various panels handling election petitions in Lagos to the NJC, owing to suspicion of compromise.
