Farmers celebrate World Egg Day with Kubwa orphans

Daily Trust - - CITY NEWS - By Emma Elekwa

Members of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), FCT chapter, at the weekend, presented 35 crates of eggs to the children of Divine Wounds of Jesus Orphanage, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, as part of their activities to mark this year’s World Egg Day. Making the presentation to the home, the chairman of the association, Wilson Chima, said the visit to the orphanage was in line with this year’s theme:”Benefits of an egg a day for the Nigerian child”.

He stressed the need for children to be exposed to the importance of egg in their diet which he said contains 12 vitamins and 12 minerals essential for their growth and reasoning. Wilson enjoined the management of the home to develop the habit of farming by putting up a mini poultry farm within the orphanage for egg production which, according to him, could also serve as a source of revenue and employment for the home. One of the beneficiaries, Adeola, who confessed that she could not remember the last time she ate egg, was full of thanks to the organisation for the visit, praying that God would reward them immensely. Responding on behalf of the proprietor of the orphanage, Mr. Isaac Idam appreciated the association for the charity, promising to relate their proposals to the management for possible considerations.
