Gombe promotes 8,674 teachers

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Ahmed Mohammed, Gombe

Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has approved the promotion of 8,648 teachers in all 11 local government areas.

It was gathered that teachers in the state had not been promoted in the past eight years. Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Salama, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Gombe yesterday.

“The last time they were promoted was in 2007”, he said.

Alhaji Adamu said when the governor directed SUBEB to look into problems of teachers, the board asked the 11 local government areas to submit the list of those that were due for promotion.

He said the board then set up a committee which verified their cases.

He said those on Grade Level 7 were promoted to Grade Level 9, while those on Level 9 were moved to Level 12 and 13.

He said they had given the promotion letters to teachers in nine local government areas and those in the remaining two local government areas would soon be given theirs.

Salama said the governor also directed the deduction of N68 million from local government allocations to ensure that the promotion is backed by salary increase.

He maintained that teachers should qualify for promotion after every three years.
