Kogi: Tribunal upholds Rep Lawal’s election

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has upheld the election of Alhaji Lawal Mohammed Idrisu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Mr Aloysius Okino, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 28 National Assembly election, had gone to the tribunal to challenge Mohammed’s election on the ground that that he (Mohammed) presented forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Delivering her judgment yesterday, the tribunal chairman, Justice Akon Ikpeme, held that the petitioner was not able to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. He subsequently dismissed the petition.

Reacting to the judgement, Rep Lawal said he dedicated his victory to the people of Ajaokuta who gave him the mandate, saying that the tribunal had reconfirmed their ‘rousing support’.

Alhaji Mohammed, who spoke through his media aide, Mr Isa Itopa, urged the petitioner, Mr Okino, to join hands with him to move Ajaokuta forward.
