Women sen­si­tized on vesico vagi­nal fis­tula in Zam­fara

About 4,464 women have been sen­si­tized on pre­ven­tive mea­sure against Vesico Vagi­nal Fis­tula (VVF) in Zam­fara State.

The En­gen­der Health, a non­govern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tion funded by United States Agency for In­ter­na­tional De­vel­op­ment (USAID) in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Zam­fara state branch of the Fed­er­a­tion of Mus­lim Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion (FOMWAN) car­ried out the ex­er­cise in eight com­mu­ni­ties across the state and it was flagged-off at the Emir of Maru, Al­haji Abubakar Chika Ibrahim’s palace.

The com­mu­ni­ties, the cam­paign train vis­ited were Maru, Mada, Gusau, Tsafe, Damba, Wanke, Kur­yarMadaro and Zurmi with 558 women par­tic­i­pants in each of the com­mu­ni­ties.

Speak­ing dur­ing the last trip of the cam­paign tour in Zurmi com­mu­nity, the

Com­mu­nity and Mo­bi­liza­tion Of­fi­cer of the group, Mrs Amina Bala said the aware­ness cam­paign was un­der the pro­ject in­tro­duced by the or­ga­ni­za­tion ‘’Fis­tula Care Plus’’

“We de­cided to carry out this cam­paign pro­gram con­sid­er­ing the ram­pant cases of the dis­ease among women in the state and the coun­try at large es­pe­cially those in ru­ral com­mu­ni­ties where there is low aware­ness on health care de­liv­ery so as to re­duce the oc­cur­rences of the dis­ease and its ef­fect to our sis­ters,” she said.

State Ameera of FOMWAN, Ha­jiya Ladi Maru com­mended the NGO for the pro­ject which she de­scribed as one of the most se­ri­ous health chal­lenges fac­ing women to­day.
