The Federal Government yesterday received the final report of the European Union Observer Mission to the 2015 general elections in Nigeria.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo received the report from a delegation of the EU Election Observer Mission led by Chief Observer, Santiago Fisas.

Osinbajo thanked the EU for participating actively in the electoral process and making useful recommendations that could improve the process.

The vice president assured all that the Federal Government would study and consider the recommendations as soon as possible.

He said: “It is our duty to ensure that the electoral system guarantees free and fair elections, where the opposition can win if voted for by the people.”

According to him, while some of the recommendations require action by the National Assembly, the executive will consider the ones within its powers to implement.

The EU observer mission recommended, among others, that the Independent National Electoral Commission be strengthened to tackle complex electoral challenges.
