Buhari obtains national identity card
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday obtained his national identity card from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The Director General of the commission, Chris Onyemenam, presented the identity card to the president at the State House in Abuja yesterday.
After receiving his identity card, Buhari directed the commission to harmonise and integrate data obtained by other agencies, both governmental and nongovernmental.
Addressing House correspondents later, Onyemenamsaidthecommission was processing about 20 million data from the Bank Verification Number scheme.
He said the commission had also collaborated with the
State Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Pension Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Communications Commission, the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
He said Buhari was shown how the national identification number could be used to confirm the identity of an individual even if the person was not present.
