Katsina guber: APGA candidate seeks N30bn damages from MTN

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina

Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Tsauri (Tata), the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Katsina State, during the 2015 elections, has asked a Federal High Court in Katsina to compel MTN Nigeria to pay him N30 billion damages.

Tata had approached the court where he blamed the telecommunication company for allowing the opposition to clone his personal line to send text messages to unsuspecting admirers, announcing his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race, 24 hours to election date.

The court was told that without authorization, the mobile number of the APGA candidate was used to ask his supporters to vote for the candidate of the PDP, Engineer Musa Nashuni.

The APGA candidate, who was represented by Barrister Mas’ud Alebelewa, said that singular action made his client to lose his entire prospect of becoming the winner of the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state.

Justice B.G Ashigar, who admitted the case, ruled that MTN Nigeria should be at the court on November, 30 to depend itself.
