Panel beater in court over alleged theft
A panel beater, Bitrus Nyango, 22, on Wednesday appeared before a Jos Chief Magistrate’s’ Court, charged with stealing two phones valued at N52,000.
Nyango, who resides at Angwan Mai Angwa in Zarmaganda, Jos, is charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Thomas Amoku, told the court that one Gabriel Isaac of Rukuba Barracks, Jos, reported the matter at the “A” Division Police Station on Oct. 10.
Amoku said that while the complainant was at the Terminus Market, the accused person and two others, now at large, attacked him and dispossessed him of his phones, valued at N52, 000.
He said that the accused was, however, arrested by security men while he was trying to flee the scene.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 317 and 288 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to five years imprisonment or an option of fine or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The Magistrate, Mr Naanlang Dashe, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum.
Dashe said the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and submit two recent passport photographs and driver’s licence or national identity card to the court. NAN
