Teenager charged with stealing N700,000 tricycle
An unemployed man, Damilola Ifakorede, who allegedly stole a tricycle valued at N700,000, was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos.
Ifakorede, 19, a resident of No. 7, Akinbiyi St., Mushin, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.
The Prosecutor Inspector Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 10 at Hanson Lane, Mushin.
He said the accused with others still at large conspired to steal a tricycle valued at N700, 000 property of Mr Adebabo Adeoyo.
“The accused and two
others at large stole a tricycle parked in the front of the house of the complainant,’’ he said.
Ayorinde said the accused and others unlawfully entered the house of the complainant at night and took it away.
“They were driving the tricycle out of the street when one of the residents sighted them and raised an alarm.
“The accused was apprehended while others escaped and the tricycle was recovered.
“The residents descended on the accused but for the timely intervention of some policemen, the accused would have been lynched,” he said.
The offences, Ayorinde noted, contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail for offenders, while Section 409 provides two years.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Azeez, adjourned the case till Nov. 11 for mention.
