NDE trains 25 un­em­ployed youths on com­mer­cial agric in FCT

The Na­tional Di­rec­torate of Em­ploy­ment (NDE) has com­menced train­ing of 25 un­em­ployed youths in the FCT on gar­den­ing and poul­try pro­duc­tion un­der the Com­mer­cial Farm­ers Train­ing Pro­ject (CFTP) of the Ru­ral Em­ploy­ment Pro­mo­tion (REP) Depart­ment of the Scheme.

Declar­ing the train­ing open at the NDE Model Skills Ac­qui­si­tion Cen­tre, Kuduru, Bwari Area Coun­cil of the FCT, the Di­rec­tor Gen­eral, NDE, Malam Abubakar Mo­hammed, said the pro­ject is in­tended to ex­plore the huge po­ten­tial of agri­cul­ture to cre­ate jobs, wealth and en­sure food se­cu­rity, adding that it is de­signed with the ob­jec­tive of gen­er­at­ing ru­ral em­ploy­ment and im­prov­ing in­comes through agrobusi­ness en­gage­ments.

“This train­ing is com­ing at a time the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment of Nige­ria placed em­bargo on im­por­ta­tion of all kinds of poul­try prod­ucts es­pe­cially frozen chicken. This de­vel­op­ment is a wake-up call for all poul­try farm­ers in Nige­ria and those in­ter­ested in go­ing into poul­try busi­ness to stim­u­late their zeal and em­brace agro-busi­ness (poul­try) for food se­cu­rity, wealth and em­ploy­ment cre­ation as well as na­tional de­vel­op­ment,” he added.

Mo­hammed, who was rep­re­sented by the FCT Co­or­di­na­tor, Lady Edna Ofordile, said the one-month train­ing is to stim­u­late the in­ter­est of all cat­e­gories of the un­em­ployed, in­clud­ing school leavers, grad­u­ates of ter­tiary in­sti­tu­tions, re­tirees and peo­ple with spe­cial needs in the ru­ral ar­eas to iden­tify busi­ness op­por­tu­ni­ties in the agri­cul­tural value chain for em­ploy­ment and wealth cre­ation.
