NDE trains 25 unemployed youths on commercial agric in FCT
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training of 25 unemployed youths in the FCT on gardening and poultry production under the Commercial Farmers Training Project (CFTP) of the Rural Employment Promotion (REP) Department of the Scheme.
Declaring the training open at the NDE Model Skills Acquisition Centre, Kuduru, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, the Director General, NDE, Malam Abubakar Mohammed, said the project is intended to explore the huge potential of agriculture to create jobs, wealth and ensure food security, adding that it is designed with the objective of generating rural employment and improving incomes through agrobusiness engagements.
“This training is coming at a time the Federal Government of Nigeria placed embargo on importation of all kinds of poultry products especially frozen chicken. This development is a wake-up call for all poultry farmers in Nigeria and those interested in going into poultry business to stimulate their zeal and embrace agro-business (poultry) for food security, wealth and employment creation as well as national development,” he added.
Mohammed, who was represented by the FCT Coordinator, Lady Edna Ofordile, said the one-month training is to stimulate the interest of all categories of the unemployed, including school leavers, graduates of tertiary institutions, retirees and people with special needs in the rural areas to identify business opportunities in the agricultural value chain for employment and wealth creation.
