Amiddle-aged man and his wife, a nursing mother of twins, have been arraigned before an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly stabbing their neighbour over generator fumes. Anthony Okorie and Mercy Okorie of Dutsen Makaranta, were charged with joint act, criminal force and causing hurt, offences contrary to sections 79, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, DSP Egwu Anthony, told the court that one Johnson Omodia of same address, reported at the Dutsen Alhaji police station on September 25, that the accused put on their generator at night and turned the exhaust of the generator directly at the window of his parlour.

He said when they were confronted by the complainant, they abused him and used a sharp object to stab him on his head injuring him.

When the charge was read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and Mercy Okorie was granted temporary bail on self-recognition by the judge, Mohammed Marafa over her condition as a nursing mother. The husband, Mr. Okorie was however remanded in prison to enable the court decide his bail terms. The case was adjourned to October 19 for hearing.
