B/Haram attacks mosque during prayers in Maiduguri
A suicide bomber yesterday attacked a mosque along Damboa road in Molai village, eight kilometres from Maiduguri, killing many worshippers and leaving many injured, a local official said.
The official who pleaded anonymity said the bomber joined worshippers at the village mosque for the evening prayers and detonated the explosive when the prayer session was about to start.
“All the worshippers in the mosque died with him. Someone around the mosque area ran to tell me. Others entered the mosque to remove the corpses when the second bomb went off, killing those on rescue mission.
“I had to quickly go back home. But I saw two victims of the second blast being rushed to hospital in Molai. There is still heavy military presence in Molai. You know it is the last point from Maiduguri along the road to Damboa.
“The military are preventing people from going beyond Molai towards Damboa because after Molai, what you have is a section of the Sambisa forest being occupied by the insurgents,” he said.
