2 firms to in­vest $280m on so­lar energy in Katsina

About $280 mil­lion is to be in­vested by two firms to gen­er­ate 175 MW from so­lar in Katsina. The firms are Pan African So­lar and Nova So­lar.

Brief­ing news­men in Katsina, Dikko Radda, Chief of Staff to Gover­nor Aminu Mais­ari said the two projects are to sited in Kankia and ex­pected to be com­mis­sioned in 2016.

Ac­cord­ing to Radda, Pan African So­lar is to in­vest $130m for 75mw, while Nova So­lar is to com­mit $150m for 100mw. He said the en­tire pro­ject will be one of the largest so­lar projects in the con­ti­nent.

He said Gover­nor Masari had been mak­ing nec­es­sary plans for the re­al­i­sa­tion of the projects to boost power sup­ply in the state and add to the na­tional grid.

When com­pleted, the pro­ject will pro­vide cheap power and youth em­ploy­ment to the teem­ing pop­u­lace.
