Poor hand-wash­ing habit among Nige­ri­ans poses health risk

The poor hand wash­ing habit amongst Nige­ri­ans poses a se­ri­ous pub­lic health risk, the United Na­tions Chil­dren’s Fund (UNICEF) Nige­ria of­fice has said.

A state­ment from the of­fice said in a sur­vey that UNICEF car­ried out in six states, alarm­ingly, only about 14 per cent of peo­ple wash their hands with soap af­ter clean­ing a child’s fae­ces .

“We found that an av­er­age of 82 per cent of peo­ple washed their hands be­fore eat­ing, while only 53 per cent of peo­ple washed their hands with soap af­ter defe­ca­tion. This poses a se­ri­ous pub­lic-health risk,” the state­ment read.
