Poor hand-washing habit among Nigerians poses health risk
The poor hand washing habit amongst Nigerians poses a serious public health risk, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria office has said.
A statement from the office said in a survey that UNICEF carried out in six states, alarmingly, only about 14 per cent of people wash their hands with soap after cleaning a child’s faeces .
“We found that an average of 82 per cent of people washed their hands before eating, while only 53 per cent of people washed their hands with soap after defecation. This poses a serious public-health risk,” the statement read.
